Baker Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church holds its first service.
May 31, 1891
(May) The church is located at the corner of Columbia Road and Cushing Avenue. Its construction was supported by a bequest in 1866 from Sarah Baker, a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church near Lower Mills, provided that the new church is built within three-fourths of a mile from her Savin Hill home. The site chosen was subsequently found to be 19 feet beyond that distance, but a court decision allowed them to use the funds nevertheless.
